Does Soulpepper Theatre in the Distillery District take requests?  I wonder since David Bowie’s death last week brought back memories of one of the company’s best shows of 2013, a one-hour songbook called “Rebel, Rebel:  The Music of David Bowie.

Art of Time Ensemble’s Sgt. Pepper Returns to Toronto

This Thursday, Jan. 21st, you can be sure the Hendersons will be there, late of Pablo Fanques Fair.  And so will be Mr. Kite, Lucy, and, of course, Lovely Rita.

They are just a few of the many musical characters who will descend upon the Sony Centre in another “Day in the Life” of Toronto’s Art of Time Ensemble.

Edmonton’s Citadel Theatre has scored the rights to produce Simon Stephens’ Olivier and Tony Award-winning play “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time.”

 

Hooray for Bridgepoint Hospital, Riverdale:

Bridgepoint Hospital in Toronto's  Riverdale got a sprinkling of stardust Sunday night at the Golden Globes when Hollywood actress Brie Larson won Best Actress in a Drama for the Oscar-favored movie "Room."  She played the role of the mother.

What a difference a year makes!  That’s an understatement for Canadian-born triple threat performer Chilina Kennedy who is currently starring on Broadway in “Beautiful:  The Carole King Musical.”

Last year, in November 2014, she was playing the lead role in Theatre Aquarius Hamilton’s sold-out production of the musical of “Mary Poppins.”  Now, just a little over a year later, on Dec. 6th, 2015, she performed centre stage in Washington as the Kennedy Centre honored Carole King herself, among others.  The tribute was telecast last week on Dec. 29th.

Original Farceur Craig Lauzon Says He’ll Miss Ex-PM Stephen Harper

Although Craig Lauzon of CBC-TV’s Air Farce is of Ojibwa descent, he also is one of the Last of the Mohicans.  One of the three last remaining members of the original Air Farce comedy troupe, that is.

 

For David Ferry, stuff did indeed happen this year, in November.

He and Toronto’s Coalmine Theatre’s production of Jez Butterworth’s “The River,” directed by Ted Dykstra, earned unanimous popular and critical acclaim.  He starred in a role that Hugh Jackman played on Broadway to much attention last year.
