Dancap’s American Idiot:

Off the Stage and Into Your Face!!!

Dancap blasts into its 2012 Broadway series tonight with the blistering, sneering American Idiot kicking off the much acclaimed show’s first North American tour.  Arguably, this is the rock musical that brought punk to Broadway and now brings it to Toronto and North America.

Running Wild:

David Krane and His Month with Michelle -- Part II

MY WEEK WITH MARILYN

Written by Dennis Kucherawy

The temperature's rising,  It isn't surprising,  Michelle certainly can can-can!!

In the classic hit musical My Fair Lady, Professor Henry Higgins bet Colonel Pickering that after six months of teaching proper English to Cockney flower girl Eliza Dolittle, he could pass her off as a duchess at an Embassy Ball.

By comparison, within a month New York-based musician David Krane coached Michelle Williams and vocally transformed the former star of TV’s Dawson Creek and the critically acclaimed and controversial Brokeback Mountain into Marilyn Monroe.  Her scintillating performance as the sultry screen legend in My Week with Marilyn (opening nationwide this Friday), has inspired early Oscar nomination buzz.

In Concert with Idina Menzel

Written by Jo Frankel

When Idina Menzel sets out to do a PBS special/one-woman show she brings it all. And by all, I mean a powerhouse belt, endearing personal anecdotes, and a feeling that she can’t quite believe she’s really there. Her concert, backed by the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra, at Koerner Hall in Toronto on Friday night was everything it was promised to be.

*One of Harold Prince’s favorite words

Alright, so for now the Broadway sensation The Book of Mormon and the Broadway-bound West End hit Ghost – The Musical won’t be coming to Toronto as this blog recently predicted.  However, legendary producer/director Harold (Hal) Prince did arrive here today (as predicted) at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts.  He came on the eve of the 50th anniversary of the world premiere of the movie classic West Side Story, the cinematic adaptation of the beloved stage musical that he originally produced on Broadway.

The Phantom of the Opera

Written by Dennis Kucherawy

Cineplex Entertainment Presents 25th Anniversary Celebration of Entertainment and Musical Theatre History’s Most Successful Production

It is the highest grossing production in entertainment history, grossing more than US $5.1 billion worldwide and earning more than such movies as Avatar and Titanic.

As Broadway’s longest running show, its earnings there alone have surpassed US $800 million.  More than 100 million people in 149 cities in 25 countries have seen the ubiquitous chandelier come crashing down to the accompaniment of crashing, chromatic Grand-Guignol chords.  They have swooned to the story’s romance and been terrified by a plot that has almost as much horror and mystery as today’s stock market.

One bad apple don’t spoil the whole bunch… Sure! Go and tell that to the Phantom!
Donny Osmond and Colm Wilkinson, stars in Dancap Productions’ season this summer at the Four Seasons Centre for the Performing Arts, bring back a fun memory that could actually be described by a classic Rolling Stones’ hit: “You Can’t Always Get What You Want.”
