The winner of five 2004 Tony Awards including Best Revival, “Assassins” is considered by many to be the most controversial musicals ever written.  It is bold, original, disturbing and alarmingly funny.

With music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by John Weidman, “Assassins” lays bare the lives of nine individuals who assassinate or tried to assassinate the President of the United States.  This one-act historical play explores the dark side of the American experience from John Wilkes Booth to Lee Harvey Oswald.  Bending the rules of time and space, assassins and would-be assassins from different historical periods meet, interact and inspire each other to harrowing acts in the name of achieving the American Dream.  In light of current political events in the USA, this musical remains timely as it combines Sondheim’s signature blend of intelligently stunning lyrics and beautiful music with a panoramic story of one nation’s obsession with celebrity and the aggressive means some will use to obtain it.
