Did you hear the one about the astronaut and the Barenaked Lady?  Well, leave it to Canada’s comedy troupe Air Farce to bring them together for its first-ever summer special, this one celebrating our country’s 150th birthday.

That’s right, special guests Canadian spaceman Chris Hadfield and Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies rock band combine to offer some financial advice to NASA as they sing a parody of the Ladies’ No. 1 hit “If I Had A Million Dollars.”  They will join forces with additional guests Lorne Cardinal and Eric Peterson of “Corner Gas,” Hélène Joy of “Murdoch Mysteries” and Kaniehtiio Horn “What Would Sal Do” to help the Air Farce present 60 “funny, fast-paced minutes” of laughs in its first-ever summer TV special titled “Air Farce Canada 150.”

It will be the lead-in for the televised Canada Day Festivities live from Parliament Hill.  And for the first time in Air Farce history, the show will be telecast at the exact same time with no delays or no time shifting on Saturday, July 1st at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBC.

In its traditional spirit of fun and satire, the cast will present its perspective on the people and events that shaped Canada including the Vikings’ landing in Newfoundland, the first hockey game, cottage life with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie, pop culture parodies such as Ca-Na-Da:  The Musical and a modern, revised version of the NFB animated classic Log Driver’s Waltz.

Founding Air Farce troupe members Don Ferguson and Luba Goy return for the Air Farce Canada 150 special.  Reuniting with them are Jessica Holmes (“The Holmes Show”), Craig Lauzon (“The Ron James Show”), Darryl Hinds (“Little Mosque on the Prairie”) and Emma Hunter (“The Beaverton”.)

First-time members are Chris Wilson (“The Beaverton”) and Toronto TV and stage actress Isabel Kanaan (“Haunted or Hoax.”)  Rob Lindsay and Wayne Moss direct.

An encore broadcast of “Air Farce Canada 150” airs Monday,   July 3rd at 8:00 p.m. local (8:30 p.m. NL).
